WEST SIDE STORY IN CONCERT @ Victory Theatre
Nov 11 @ 2:00 pm

University of Evansville Opera
Members of the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus

We continue the 100th birthday celebration of legendary American composer, Leonard Bernstein, with the most groundbreaking musical of the 20th century. West Side Story is a modern day retelling of the story of Romeo & Juliet through the rival gangs of New York City’s Jets and Sharks. Featuring an exciting mix of jazz and Latin music, West Side Story includes “Somewhere,” “Tonight,” and “America,” songs that have become true American classics. This concert demonstrates the EPO’s continued commitment to bringing opera and musical theatre to the Victory Theatre stage. It also furthers the Philharmonic’s collaboration with the University of Evansville Opera.

Felix Mendelssohn             Symphony No. 4, “Italian”
John Rutter                         Requiem

What better way to celebrate Maestro Savia’s 30th Anniversary than to bring back his first Assistant Conductor, Robert Moody! Currently Music Director of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Moody began his conducting career in Evansville, not only as Assistant Conductor but also as Evansville Philharmonic Chorus Conductor and founding conductor of the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.  Moody leads the EPO in Mendelssohn’s brilliant “Italian” Symphony No. 4, and reunites with the Chorus for John Rutter’s sublime and uplifting Requiem. Currently Composer-In-Residence at the Kennedy Center, Mason Bates describes his innovative piece, Auditorium, as a thriller during which the orchestra is “haunted” by ghostly recordings of a baroque ensemble.
