EVANSVILLE PHILHARMONIC 63rd ANNUAL YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION SELECTS WINNERS

Evansville, Indiana – On Sunday, January 27, 2019, a panel of judges appointed by the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra selected winners for the Philharmonic’s 63rd Annual Young Artist Competition held at the Victory Theatre in downtown Evansville. Fourteen talented instrumental musicians from the Tri-State area in grades 9 - 12 competed for cash prizes and performance opportunities with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. The top three prizes were awarded to the following:

 

Grand Prize WiinnerThe Grand Prize Winner flautist Allyson Donnelly of Newburgh, Indiana. Allyson’s virtuosic performance of the C.P.E. Bach Flute Concerto in D minor won her a $1,000 cash prize and the opportunity to perform with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra on the Young People’s Concerts in March of 2020. Allyson is a freshman at Castle High School and a member of the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra

Conductors AwardThe second place prize CONDUCTOR’S AWARD went to violinist Annie Donato of Jasper, IN. Annie’s performance of the Lalo Symphonie Espagnole won her a $600 cash prize and a solo performance with the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra on May 11. Annie is a junior at Jasper High School and 1st violinist in the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

Orchestra AwardThe third place prize, or ORCHESTRA AWARD, went to harpist Emily Fowler of Mt. Carmel, IL. Emily’s performance of the first movement of the Harp Concerto in A major by Dittersdorf won her a $300 cash prize. Emily is a 9th Grade homeschool student and is a member of the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

An HONORABLE MENTION was awarded to Joshua Mijares (piano) and Brendan Stock (cello).

The Young Artist Competition is designed to promote, encourage, and nurture exceptional young talent. The Young Artists Competition is funded in part by the Musicians Club of Evansville/Margaret B. & Leo E. Heim Memorial Scholarship Fund.
