The EPO begins a new era in this season opening concert conducted under the baton of Roger Kalia in his first symphonic performance as the EPO’s new music director. The program opens with a world premiere of a commissioned fanfare by acclaimed composer Paul Dooley that celebrates the EPO and the City of Evansville. Pianist Sean Chen will dazzle audiences with his astonishing technique and artistry in Mendelssohn’s dramatic Piano Concerto No. 1. The program concludes with Mahler’s monumental First Symphony, which is one of the most triumphant works in the repertoire. Mahler said a “symphony must be like the world — it must contain everything,” and with this symphony, Maestro Kalia leads the EPO into its next chapter.
